Research and Policy Manager

About the role: summary:

This is a new, exciting and essential role, which will allow the Equality Trust to increase its impact. The successful candidate will take lead responsibility for research & policy. An ability to engage persuasively with policy makers, employers etc. is also desirable. The appointee will be a key player at a growing organisation, working on one of the most timely issues on the national agenda.

Objectives and responsibilities of the role:

  • Developing and implementing research and policy plans. Contributing to the Equality Trust’s overall planning as part of the management team.

  • Ensuring that the Equality Trust maintains a comprehensive, authoritative, accessible and up-to-date information resource on the key trends in UK economic inequality; as well as its impacts, drivers and proposed solutions. (Sources include academics, government & agencies, political parties, think-tanks, NGOs, trade unions). This involves building on existing resources maintained by the Equality Trust (and One Society).

  • Developing - and ensuring a robust evidence base for – the Equality Trust’s policy positions and proposals.

  • Assessing and advising on relevant external debates and proposals.

  • Managing / commissioning and contributing to the production of research.

  • Identifying and engaging with key decision makers and influencers in support of the Equality Trust’s positions and proposals. Acting as a spokesperson.

  • Ensuring that briefings, updates and guidance are available for key audiences in a timely manner.

  • Writing and/or managing the writing of reports and articles

  • Advising affiliated groups on engagement with local decision-makers and influencers (via the Groups and Supporters Manager).

  • Managing a Policy and Research Officer.

  • Working closely with the Executive Director, Media and Communications Manager and Groups and Supporters Manager.

  • The Equality Trust is a small organisation, and therefore all staff can expect to participate in a range of tasks. 

Contract details:

  • Salary is £32,000 pa, plus 6% pension contribution.

  • This role is a full time position (37.5 hrs. per week). We are willing to consider applicants who are unable to work full time; such preferences should be made clear in applications.

  • Holiday entitlement is 25 days per year, plus statutory bank holidays.

  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required, for which time off in lieu is available.

  • The role may involve occasional travel outside London.

Finance and Administration Officer, part time (22.5 hrs per week, flexible)

Role summary

This is a new role, which involves ensuring that finance and administration systems are adequate to the needs of the organisation, as well as carrying out finance and administration duties on a day to day level. 
The Equality Trust is a small organisation (5 full time staff) so this role is an opportunity to have a wide responsibility for aspects of our work which are crucial to our functioning.

Responsibilities of the role:

Finance

  • Financial administration and bookkeeping
  • Preparation of monthly payroll, including liaising with external pension fund administrators and other agencies
  • All matters relating to banking and the processing of related invoices and other financial paperwork including accurate coding
  • Processing donations (The Equality Trust has approximately 600 regular donors )
  • Administration
  • Ensuring telephone and IT systems are adequately maintained
  • Maintaining stationery and other supplies
  • Maintaining common filing systems (electronic and hard copy)
  • Administering mailings (electronic and hard copy) to supporters, groups and other mailing lists
  • Processing supporter and group information
  • Answering general queries by email or telephone
  • Recruitment administration when necessary (very rarely. booking advertising, interview rooms etc. liaising with applicants)
  • Providing general administrative support

General:

  • Ensuring that suitable finance and administration systems are updated and maintained
  • Work within the policies and procedures of the Equality Trust
  • Other duties, as appropriate to role, as agreed by Executive Director

Responsible to: Executive Director

Contract details:

Salary is £23,000 pa pro-rata, plus 6% pension contribution (payments begin once the probation period is completed, backdated to start of contract). Additional contributions can be made yourself through your salary, but this is optional and does not affect the level of pension The Equality Trust pays. 

This role is a part time position (22.5 hrs per week, equivalent to 3 days per week. Hours are flexible).
