Party conference report
Thanks to donations from our supporters, we were able to take part in a total of ten fringe meetings this year at the Green, Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative party conferences and the TUC Congress.
We were very pleased to share our platform at five of these events with nef (the New Economics Foundation), three with the Fairtrade Foundation and three with Action for Children.
We were also glad to welcome guest speakers; including Jeremy Dear, General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists, Jane Loftus, President of the Communication Workers Union, Bob Cannell, Co-operatives UK board member, Kevin Anderson, Tyndall Centre Director and Theresa May MP.
Thanks to everyone who joined us at each of these events and contributed to the lively debates – and in particular to our supporters who helped keep the Climate Clinic running by volunteering their time to help the organisers.
Welcome Terence Bermingham
A very warm welcome to The Equality Trust's new volunteer, Terence Bermingham.
Terence is a trustee of the International Tree Foundation, runs a customer service & quality consultancy and volunteers with the Sussex Air Ambulance – but is still finding time to join us in campaigning for greater equality. He will be using his experience of local networks to support our equality groups across the country and has this message for local campaigners:
“If you are interested in supporting the important work of The Equality Trust, then please get in touch. The message of equality needs to be spread far and wide and your help would be very welcome.”
You can get in touch with Terence at terence[at]bermingham.me
Desk space for volunteers – thanks to a very generous donor
We would like to thank one of our supporters whose kind donation has enabled us to rent a second desk in our London office for volunteers to use. This is already making a huge difference to our capacity – and Kathryn is enjoying having company in her corner of the Loman Street building!
If you are interested in sponsoring a specific project then please get in touch with kathryn.busby@equalitytrust.org.uk to discuss the possibilities.

Ethical, green, democratic... and supporting The Equality Trust
The Equality Trust has formed a partnership with The Phone Co-op on the strength of our shared values.
The Phone Co-op is the only real option for anyone seeking a more ethical and environmentally responsible supplier of phone, broadband and mobile services. Owned and democratically controlled by its customers, the co-operative is primarily concerned with giving customers good value, excellent service and a socially responsible, environmentally sustainable approach to business.
We are working with The Phone Co-op to offer supporters a better deal on phone, broadband and mobile services.
When you quote ‘Equality Trust’ and our code ‘AF0435’ you will receive a £10 credit on your first bill and The Equality Trust will receive 6% of your ongoing spend on Phone Co-op services to help us grow and develop.
Their line rental and mobile services are both rated a ‘Best Buy’ by Ethical Consumer magazine and won the Green England Best for Customer Service Award, so you can be confident that you’ll receive high standards of service as well as getting an excellent deal on price.
