Spreading the word: inaugural speaker training day a big success
Submitted by Bill Kerry on 17 May 2010
The Equality Trust ran its first speaker training day on Friday 14th May at the offices of CAN Mezzanine in Old Street, London. Thirteen people volunteered for the training from our London, Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, Exeter and Cambridge local groups in what was a hugely productive and enjoyable day. We would like to place on record our thanks for their committment to this initiative and for making it such a successful day.
In the morning the participants were taken through the main points of the evidence by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett. In the afternoon they split into groups to prepare and deliver their own presentations to each other, each group being asked to imagine they were presenting to a different type of audience ranging from a local Chamber of Commerce through to a local Green Party. During the day, advice was also given on presentation techniques and how to answer questions that typically arise.
We now intend to run a regular programme of speaker training each year for those supporters and local group members who want to help us spread the evidence far and wide. For more information on joining us as a supporter and/or joining (or forming!) one of our local groups please visit our Community pages.
Photos from the day (hopefully!) coming soon...
